General LPG Safety Guidelines
Follow these proven basic safety precautions to ensure safe cooking gas usage every day.
Keep LPG Cylinders Upright
Always store, transport, and operate your LPG cylinder in an upright, vertical position on a firm, level surface. Never roll or keep a cylinder horizontally.
Keep Away from Direct Heat & Flames
Position your cylinder away from direct heat sources, open flames, electrical heaters, ovens, and sparks. Cylinders must never be placed beneath hot surfaces or exposed to direct sunlight.
Ensure Proper Ventilation
LPG is heavier than air and accumulates at floor level if a leak occurs. Keep your kitchen well-ventilated with clear ground-level air circulation. Never place cylinders in closed, airless cupboards without ventilation holes.
Do Not Tamper with LPG Equipment
Never attempt to modify, repair, or tamper with the cylinder valve, pressure regulator, safety cap, or rubber hose yourself. Always use genuine, authorized parts supplied by your distributor.
Check for Unusual Smell & Act Safely
LPG has a distinctive strong odorant added for leak detection. If you smell gas, turn off the cylinder regulator switch immediately and follow the leak emergency response steps.
Keep Emergency Contacts Accessible
Keep the 24/7 LPG Emergency Helpline number 1906 and Suranjali Bharatgas contact numbers (+91 9075546146) saved in your mobile phone and displayed visibly near the kitchen.
What to Do If You Smell Gas
Take calm, prompt, and deliberate actions to ensure the safety of your home and family.
✅ DO IMMEDIATELY:
- Turn off regulator: Immediately switch off the cylinder regulator knob and the gas stove burners.
- Extinguish open flames: Put out all candles, incense sticks, pooja lamps, and matchsticks immediately.
- Open doors and windows: Facilitate natural cross-ventilation to disperse accumulating gas.
- Fit safety cap: Detach regulator and place the plastic safety cap tightly onto the cylinder valve if leak is at the valve.
- Evacuate premises: Move family members and pets to a safe, ventilated area outdoors.
- Call for help: Dial 1906 or contact Suranjali Bharatgas from outside the house.
❌ STRICTLY DO NOT:
- Do not touch electrical switches: Do NOT turn any electrical switch ON or OFF (even a tiny spark can trigger an explosion).
- Do not light matches or lighters: Never use flames, candles, or lighters to detect a leak.
- Do not use mobile phones indoors: Avoid using cellphones or landlines inside the room where gas has leaked.
- Do not operate doorbells: Electrical doorbells can generate an internal spark.
- Do not try to fix cylinder valves: Never use tools like wrenches or pliers to force a stuck valve.
